Update

Yeah, so I stopped journaling just before my 20th birthday, but I felt like writing some stuff.

On Wednesday, Feb. 10, I decided to pick up a Tamagotchi. Here's the story:

It was a Wednesday and I had a Pre-Cal test in a few hours. Me and my friend, Adam, decided to go to Wal*Mart because we were bored. And the pet store/hollywood video/used book stores yielded nothing of much interest.

I'd been looking into picking up a Tamagotchi because it's been a week of nostalgia. So, back to the toy section we went, even though we've checked for them before (yes, even in the embarrassing girl section). It's funny how they market them to young girls these days in the US, even though I think they could be quite the unisex targeted toy (kinda like Nintendogs).

To my surprise, we found some packaged in a pink guitar shape. Well, here we had it. Of course, I'd have to swallow my dignity to go to the checkout line to pay for this pink packaged children's toy. What was I thinking?

I nervously approached the checkout counter, turning the packaging over in my hands. We had to go to a real cashier because all the self checkout lines were way too full, and there was only about an hour left 'till class. Luckily, the cashier scanned, bagged, and wished us a good day without any weird looks or strange comments.

When we got back to the Shelby Center parking lot, I figured it was time to open the difficult packaging, even though I didn't have my pocket knife or scissors with me. My substitute was my house key. I dug it into the back of the plastic, managing a small hole. I ripped the back off and pulled the Tamagotchi from the destroyed packaging. Then I activated it and realized I had a test I should study for. Terrible, terrible timing to be starting a Tamagotchi. Of course, I also left the instructions in my car so I wasn't sure if the Tama would make it through my testing without dying.

After the test was over, I jabbed the pull tab back in and headed home. After dinner, it was time for a second try.

To my surprise, the Tamagotchi is still alive and doing well to this day. It seems when I was younger, it was just impossible to take care of these things.

Now I'm addicted again, so I'm somewhat glad that I was able to swallow my pride and buy this thing. I'm also expecting to get another one soon, so hopefully there will be some Tama related posts in the future (especially if I decide to go all out and get one with a color display from Japan).

Journal Entry #34: 2/3/2010

Wednesday is always a fun day because it's my last busy day of the week before things start to slow down a bit. Today my car stalled, I got an oil change at Wal*Mart, and that's about it. That's all I really had time to do because I was stuck at Wal*Mart while my oil got changed and then it was off to math class. At least tomorrow is Thursday, my favorite day of the week this semester.

Time to get some sleep early, because I really don't feel like doing anything else until tomorrow.

Journal Entry #33: 2/2/2010

Yay, I survived palindrome day #2. Yeah, I forgot, but yesterday was the "everywhere except the US and a few other places" palindrome day because 01-02-2010. Why don't our dates look like that, you might ask? Because, we're still on the customary system of measurement of course. *Sarcastic Sigh* Maybe someday.

Today was Tuesday so I was thinking Arby's, and that was about it really. Was also feeling nostalgic about old cartoons and movies and video games and stuff with some friends. Had to watch the intro to Duck Tales, Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers, The Busy World of Richard Scary, and many many others.

Anyway, enough chatter about the day gone by. Later. :) (yeah, still working on that "signing off" phrase...)

Journal Entry #32: 2/1/2010

Well today was Monday, so not much going on here. Went to school and barely made it to class on time. I guess I still don't have my schedule down on when it's best to leave for school. I played very little Pokemon today. I guess that's a good thing, why should I be playing Pokemon anyway? I have more important stuff to get done. Went on a bit of a journey today, and it turns out that all the restaurants near UAH are all on Jordan. I'll have to remember this for future reference. I don't know if I mentioned ramune before, but I got some more today from the Korean International Market. It's delicious.

Journal Entry #31: 1/31/2010

Well, today was Sunday. I missed out on church and went to work. It already feels like my birthday is tomorrow, and yet it doesn't feel like I'll really be having one at all this year. It'll probably just feel like another day.

Still feeling nostalgic. :)

Journal Entry #30: 1/30/10

Well: Saturday

A day in which I go to work early, work consumes most of my day, I usually go to church (which today I didn't, went to Zaxby's instead), and then I try to find something interesting to do.

Today's topic of interest: Tamagotchi!

Remember those days, back in the late 90's where everyone was all excited about these virtual pet things from Japan that make all kinds of annoying sound effects and end up dead within a few days? Well yeah, I had some fond memories tied up in these things.

I did my research to figure out what exactly I used to have, and I recall having either a p1 or p2 Tamagotchi (not sure which because I don't remember how old I was when I got it). The most popular variant of the virtual pets I owned was a Nano Puppy in green. It was pretty easy to take care of the dog, but it did like to run away after a while. Finally, the v1 Digimon (and later Digivice v1, but that's not really a virtual pet). All this recent nostalgia has me feeling very nostalgic for the 90's, although the 80's seems like it was a much cooler time for toys and the rise of the gadget age.

Looking through these videos about Tamagothci kinda made me want to buy an old one, but apparently they've become a sort of niche collectible and are worth much more than the $10 they used to be.

Journal Entry #29: 1/29/10

Hmmm...I never really have much to say about Fridays.

I woke up tired, went to class, went home, and then went to work. After work I played some more Pokemon Yellow, and then I went to bed.

Oh, and I suppose I should mention that the weather did turn kinda bad today with ice, sleet, rain, and snow, but overall, it didn't stop me from going to work or school.

I'm thinking that I might want to pick up a NES here pretty soon. It's been on my wish list for ages...
